RAWALPINDI, Dec 18: An angry doctor shot dead a wounded person and severely injured another in the operation theatre (OT) of District Headquarters Hospital here on Wednesday.

Dr Irfan, the alleged killer, brought his brother, Nasir, to the hospital, who had been injured by his rivals during a clash at Bahria Town on Wednesday morning. When he entered the OT, two injured victims of the clash, Wasim Gillani and Asim Gillani, were already being provided medical aid by a team of doctors.

Seeing this, Dr Irfan pulled out his pistol and shot at Wasim and Asim.

The doctors said he fired four bullets, which killed Wasim on the spot and injured Asim. Wasim, 38, who is the son of a police officer, is stated to be the security guard of the Pakistan Awami Tehrik chairman.

According to a doctor, Asim had been operated upon. However, his condition is stated to be in danger.

On the other hand, Nasir, the brother of Dr Irfan, who sustained bullet injuries in the head, has been shifted to the Neuro surgical ward of the DHQ hospital.

Soon after the incident, police guards were deployed outside the neuro and the intensive care wards, where the two injured persons are under treatment.

The senior superintendent of police, Syed Murawat Ali Shah, while ordering an inquiry into the incident has suspended the police guards already deployed at the hospital.

Around 30 people, including doctors, nurses and patients, were present in the OT when the incident occurred.

The SSP said apparently the cause of the incident was the purchase of a house in Behria Town.

On Tuesday, Dr Irfan and Wasim, who had been close friends, had a clash, which led to registration of a case against the doctor. According to the FIR, Dr Irfan visited Asim’s house on Tuesday at 9pm. While carrying a pistol, he hurled threats of dire consequences. He also fired at Asim, who sustained injuries in his leg.

The complainant, Asim, told the police that the incident occurred on the issue of high volume of tape-recorder, which was being played in Dr Irfan’s house. He told the police that he had formally complained to the doctor on December 15 but he took no notice of it.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammad Iqbal, the father of Dr Irfan, on Wednesday morning lodged an FIR with the airport police against Asif, Asim and Wasim accusing them of injuring his son, Nasir.

Sheikh Iqbal told the police that Nasir informed him by telephone that Asif, Asim and Wasim had come to his house and injured him. Later, Nasir was taken to the DHQ hospital by his brother, Dr Irfan.

Doctor Irfan, however, was arrested by the police immediately after the incident and brought to the Gunjmandi police station amid tight security.
