Concern at BJP success

LAHORE, Dec 17: Former Federal Shariat Court chief justice Mian Mahboob, expressing concern over the success of BJP in Indian state of Gujarat, has said it is the beginning of the process of emergence of yet another Pakistan in India.

He was speaking to the college students who had participated in a declamation contest held by the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Foundation and Pakistan Movement Workers Trust here on Tuesday. The subject of the contest was ‘We shall follow in the footsteps of the Quaid-i-Azam’.

Mian Mahboob said the sacrifices of the Muslims in Gujarat and held Kashmir would bear fruit soon in the form of the freedom of Indian Muslims. He said the Quaid had abhorred hypocrisy and sectarianism. “We have lost the road to our goal, and the Quaid’s teachings can show us the right path,” he said.

He regretted that most of the politicians who had been at the helm of affairs in Pakistan during the past 55 years were ‘hypocrites’ and did not practice what they claimed. He asked the students to shun hypocrisy.

The guest of honour, MNA Begum Mahnaz Rafi, said the politicians had committed blunders during the last 55 years as they had forgotten the Quaid’s principles. Now it was for the new generation to follow the right path to make Pakistan a strong country.

She said the new generation was anxious to go abroad for better opportunities whereas the things had changed in foreign countries and most of the immigrants had failed to deliver the goods. She said they should work hard here in Pakistan and help bring about a political and socio-economic revolution in the country.

In the declamation contest, Moen Akhtar of the College of Shariat and Modern Sciences won the first prize, Shamrez Khan of Al-Minhaj University second, Malik of Islamia College, Civil Lines, third and Muhammad Adnan of the Government Science College, Wahdat Road, fourth prize. Special prize was bagged by Syed Hasan Rizvi of the Government MAO College.
