KARACHI, Dec 17: Abdul Sattar Laleka, Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis, paid a visit to the Employees Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) head office in Karachi on Tuesday.
The minister, who was accompanied by the Naib Nazim Karachi, was informed of the measures being taken for the benefit of the working classes. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that during the last three years right steps had been taken in the field of economics, internal and foreign affairs and now we could say with pride that we had the reserves of more than $9 billion.
The minister said the area of benefits should be broadened and maladministration at middle and lower levels minimized. He said the EOBI should keep three priorities before it.
First the investment should be made in secure and profitable establishments; second, the process of collection of contributions should be transparent, smooth and progressive; and third, the deserving workers and their survivors should be given financial benefits without any hurdle and difficulties.
The minister urged the EOBI to achieve 14% increase in the contribution collection. He asked Naib Nazim Karachi, Tariq Hassan, to assist the EOBI in that context.—PPI/APP
