Need for joint ventures stressed

KARACHI, Dec 17: Industries and Production Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi on Tuesday underlined the need for human resource development and joint ventures between private and public sectors.

He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of a three-day conference on “Main event 2002 — effective maintenance, management strategies”, organized by business support centre, Institute of Business Management (IBM), here.

“We can not rely only on public sector,” Mr Jatoi said, adding that without assistance of the private sector, economy cannot improve. He said investment was not a solution, but proper training of the human resource was essential.

The government is making serious efforts to attract foreign investment and for this purpose, he said, the ministry was publishing manuals to guide foreign as well as local investors.

The investors, provided proper guidance and locations, would be identified for the investment, he added. The minister said the government was setting up one-desk operation to provide better facilities to both the local and foreign investors.

He said during his recent visit to Pakistan Machine Tools Factory, he directed the management to improve quality of their products. He said research and survey of new trends and adoption of new technologies was essential to compete in the world market.—APP
