Sindh MPAs elect CM today

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 15: The Sindh Assembly session on Monday, summoned by Governor Muhammadmian Soomro for ascertainment of the Leader of the House, is likely to witness fireworks again when members would raise voice against the Saturday’s episode in which the assembly building was surrounded by the police and MPAs were humiliated.

On Saturday, when the session was prorogued at around 6pm after the election of the speaker and deputy speaker, the police blocked all roads leading to the assembly building. They detained a bus carrying PPP and MMA members for over five hours and opened the main entrance only after they pounced MPA Younus Khan and whisked him away.

The PPP and MMA parliamentary party in Sindh Assembly, which met at the Qaba Auditorium late at night, formulated a strategy for the Monday’s sittings.

Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, chief of MMA Sindh, told Dawn that they had decided to work openly for mustering support for Nisar Khuhro’s candidature as Leader of the House.

Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, attending a dinner hosted by Ali Muhammad Mahar, condemned the incident and said that if the issue was raised for debate, he would listen to everyone and take action as recommended by the house.

Ali Muhammad Mahar also slammed the incident and said that an inquiry would be ordered and its findings would be implemented. In reply to a question, he said that he already enjoyed support of 90 MPAs and hoped that on Monday he would be able to win support of MPAs more than that.
