KARACHI: Improvement ordered in sanitary conditions

KARACHI, Dec 15: Chief Secretary Sindh, K.B. Rind has directed the secretary local government to evolve a strategy in coordination with DCOs and EDOs concerned for improving sanitary condit-ions in their respective localities.

He issued the directive after talking to a delegation that apprised the chief secretary of the unhygienic conditions in and around B-Area, 51-B and the Government Girls College in Korangi 6.

They said that in the area heaps of trash were to be found everywhere, the gutters were without covers and overflowing and the entire environment was polluted.

They said the whole area was infested with flies which might cause an epidemic. They further said that garbage-burning caused environmental pollution and was a public.

The chief secretary told the delegation that the Environment Protection Agency was working to eradicate all such irritants effectively and the concerned local government department had also been directed to associate the citizens in improving hygienic conditions in the city.

He further said that he would conduct a detailed visit of the city to review and assess the sanitary conditions in a day or two and strict action would be taken against the erring staff.—PPI
