Jamali assures Khuhro of inquiry
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, Dec 14: In a late night telephonic conversation with the parliamentary party leader of the PPP in Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali expressed concern over the circumstances in which the police had entered the assembly premises to arrest the Haqiqi MPA and assured him that an inquiry would be instituted.
Mr Khuhro told newsmen that he had pleaded with the prime minister to take immediate action against the concerned officials for trampling with the sanctity of the assembly and using force against elected representatives.
The Inspector-General of Police, Syed Kamal Shah, informed Mr Khuhro that the chief secretary had appointed an inquiry committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary Sarwar Khero which would submit its report to the government within 24 hours and any action against the police would be taken on the basis of the report.
Mr Khuhro was not satisfied with the suggestion and demanded immediate action against the concerned officers.
When Mr Khuhro sought assurances from the IG that the police would not use any third-degree methods against Mr Khan, the IG asked: “Do you want me to release him?”
Mr Khuhro said that if there were cases against Mr Khan why he was not arrested earlier?
