KARACHI, Dec 12: More than a hundred households of the Lyari area have been doing without good potable water for the past five months. This is despite several complaints, applications and reminders to the officials concerned.

The residents have been supplied, off and on, sewage-mixed water over the past several months. As this water cannot be consumed, they have been forced to use subsoil water, to the detriment of their health.

On Monday some of the affected people contacted the KWSB’s superintending engineer for Lyari Town - who promised to personally supervise the work needed to right the wrong. Some residents have also been visiting the Moosa Lane Pumping Station regularly to lodge their complaints.

However, no work has so far been undertaken in this regard. On Wednesday the residents sent their eleventh reminder to the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, besides other prominent officers.

In their latest reminder the residents of Bhutto House, Baitul Hashim, Haji Swaleh Building, Yaqoob Sunara Building, Zeeshan Arcade and other buildings on D. D. Chaudhry Road claimed that the problem had risen because of faulty KWSB work at the water mains near Durrani Hotel.

“We have been facing this chronic problem for the past five months, including the holy month of Ramazan, and still we fear that due to the cold attitude of the officials concerned the problem will not be solved in the near future,” said the letter.

“We have become sick and tired at being denied this basic and God-gifted human necessity,” stated the letter.

The message pointed out that due to the faulty work on the water mains, a considerable quantity of water was being turned to waste. The residents concluded their message with an appeal.

“Kindly do something in the name of the Almighty.”
