Pagara under pressure to back Rahim

Published December 10, 2002

SUKKUR, Dec 9: A top-ranking official of a sensitive agency rushed to Pirjo Goth from Islamabad on Monday to ‘persuade’ the chief of the Pakistan Muslim League (Functional), Pir Pagara, to support National Alliance candidate Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim for the chief ministership of Sindh, sources close to the PML-F said.

The negotiations lasted well over an hour but Pir saheb was in no mood to back Dr Rahim or withdraw his support to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, they said. The inaugural session of the Sindh Assembly is slated for Thursday when the MPAs-elect will take the oath.
