KARACHI: Two institutes to be opened at KU in March
KARACHI, Dec 9: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has been requested to inaugurate the Dr Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering at the University of Karachi in March, renowned nuclear scientist and adviser to the President on science and technology, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, told a meeting of the board of governors of the institute.
The meeting, which was also attended by former interior minister Moinuddin Haider and KU vice-chancellor Dr Zafar Saied Saify and others, expressed satisfaction over the pace of construction work and provision of research, teaching and residential facilities for the faculty at the institute.
Dr Qadeer expressed satisfaction over the speedy completion of the main teaching and research block and residential area of the institute.
He said President Musharraf had been invited to inaugurate the KIBGE and the Syedna Burhanuddin Institute of Molecular Medicine in March and requested the members to intensify their efforts for early completion of the projects.
Moinuddin Haider praised the cooperation extended by philanthropists and prominent personalities of the city in establishment of such an advanced institute and hoped that the institute would become a centre of excellence in exploring humanitarian and financial aspects of biological sciences.—PPI
