PESHAWAR, Dec 8: The NWFP Chief Minister, Akram Khan Durrani, announced the
establishment of a branch office of the provincial secretariat at his native Bannu.
Addressing a public meeting in Domail Bannu, he hoped that this move would save the precious time of the people of the area who have to travel to Peshawar to get their problems resolved.
A new mechanism was being introduced to find a suitable solution to the longstanding problems of the masses, he added.
Durrani further announced an “A” grade hospital to be set up in the Bannu Township for which Rs20 million were being released, he said.
The hospital would be equipped with modern equipments, so that the people of the southern districts could have an easy access to an efficient medical care, he maintained.
The chief minister further sanctioned a sum of Rs3.5 million for repairs etc to the two hospitals in Bannu.
On arrival at his hometown, the CM was accorded a tumultuous welcome. Durrani declared to work on a one-point agenda and his government would not make promises that could not be kept, he assured. “We will put the past aside and try to move in the direction of resolving people’s problems.” The chief minister said that he was fully aware of the hardships being faced by the people of Bannu.
He proposed the new hospital to be named after a freedom fighter “Khalifa Gul Nawas Memorial Hospital” and sought the consent of the audience who vociferously consented in the affirmative.
Referring to the loadshedding, Durrani reacted sharply and warned Wapda to bring it to an end.
Durrani reaffirmed that the entire policy formation and policy implementation would be carried out in a transparent manner and assured them of a mature, transparent and collective approach, he added.
He vowed that those involved in kidnapping for ransom would be apprehended and brought to justice. “We will show zero tolerance to criminals.”
At the Frontier House, Peshawar, the chief minister, said the people’s sufferings
were immeasurable. Now these would be brought to an end, he said.
Regarding complaints of isolated incidents of immorality and obscenity in Peshawar, the CM directed the police to deal with offenders.
