ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: Parliamentary leader of Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam), Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, on Sunday said the majority party should form the government in Sindh.

Talking to newsmen at a reception hosted by Armenian Ambassador Dr Emil Ghitulescu on the national day of Armenia, he said the session of the Sindh Assembly should be summoned at the earliest.

“The session of Sindh Assembly should be summoned without wasting any further time and those enjoying majority in the house be given opportunity to form the government,” he said.

“It is the need of democracy that those enjoying majority may form the government,” he said.

He said a consensus candidate enjoying the backing of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, PML (Functional), PML-Q and the National Alliance, should be the leader of the Sindh Assembly.

He said he had suggested it earlier, but the NA nominated Arbab Ghulam Rahim for chief ministership, which caused irritation among other parties and ultimately delayed the summoning of the session.

He reiterated that maintenance of a peaceful environment in Karachi should be of foremost importance.

There should not be any “no-go area” and peace should be maintained throughout the country, he said.

Referring to his talks with Balochistan Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal President Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani, he said: “I have sought their help and asked them to join the federal government as they have helped us in the formation of the provincial government.”

“We will win their support before the start of the session of the National Assembly. And if they join, the size of the cabinet will have to be expanded,” he said.

He said the president giving up his uniform was not the major demand of the MMA.

The demands pertained to the Legal Framework Order and amendment to Article 58(2b) of the Constitution, which would be taken up for discussion in the house, he said.

He said the PML-Q would positively respond to all the initiatives for cooperation.

Replying to a question, he said: “Neither have I any such intention, nor am I struggling to become the PML-Q president by replacing Mian Mohammad Azhar, who is performing satisfactorily.”—APP
