Raids to arrest Muttahida leaders

By Our Correspondent

MIRPURKHAS, Dec 1: A heavy contingent of the Karachi police conducted raids at the Hameedpura Colony, Jamna Das Colony, and Thomasabad for arresting an ex-MNA of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Anis Ahmed Khan, on Sunday.

The police claimed that the higher authorities had been tipped off that Anis Ahmed Khan, Syed Zulfiqar Haider (ex-MPA), Ashfaq Chief, and an APMSO leader, Nadeem Haider, had come to Pakistan and of these the first two were in Mirpurkhas.

It may be recalled here that the above-mentioned four leaders of the MQM along with nine others had been involved in the murder of Hakeem Mohammad Saeed.

The Anti-Terrorism Court in the wake of the murder case had awarded death sentence to nine accused and declared two accused as absconders including Anis Ahmed Khan, and Syed Zulfiqar Haider.

Both had gone underground due to the continuous raids by the police and law-enforcing agencies.

Meanwhile, the zonal in charge, MQM, Mirpurkhas, Fareed Ahmed, and other members of the zonal committee have strongly condemned the raids by the Karachi police on the house of Anis Ahmed Khan and his relatives.

In a press statement issued here on Sunday, they regretted that the Karachi police misbehaved with the women and other innocent citizens.

They demanded of the prime minister to take notice of the situation.

BISE: The employees of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad, were compelling the teachers to pay bribes by issuing delaying tactics.

Several teachers alleged that teachers from Mirpurkhas and Sanghar districts used to visit the BISE office regarding various problems.

The BISE staff delayed the issues on one pretext or another to extort money, they said.
