KARACHI, Dec 1: The AIDS Control Programme, Sindh Chapter, organized a walk here on Sunday in connection with the World AIDS Day being observed to create awareness among people on the disease.

The walk started from the Liaquat National Library and ended at the Mazar Quaid-i-Azam.

A large number of volunteers and people representing the NGOs working on AIDS control programme, participated in the walk which was led by Abdul Qasim Scouts and organized by the Health Department in collaboration with UNICEF and UNAIDS.

The participants were holding banners and placards pertaining to the disease.

“Don’t hate the patient, hate the disease,” was the message delivered to the people by Dr Sharaf Ali Shah, manager of the AIDS Control Programme, while addressing the rally.

Calling for an end to the discriminative attitude with the AIDS patients in the society, he appealed to the public to share there sufferings. He pointed out that only awareness could help control the disease.

The AIDS Control Programme, Sindh, organized similar walks also in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Hala, Khipro and other cities and towns of the province.

A quiz competition was also one of the features of the programme. It was organized by the Z. H. Trust which awarded prizes to the winners.—APP/PPI
