KARACHI, Nov 28: The special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, convicted on Thursday four Nigerian drug traffickers, arrested separately, and awarded them different prison terms.
The drug smugglers, who had hidden different quantities of heroin, stuffed into specially-insulated capsules, in their body cavities were arrested by the Anti-narcotics Force at Quaid-i-Azam International Airport.
James Nkem Okaro, arrested on Aug 29 last year, was sentenced to six years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 for carrying 1.113kg heroin. He would have to undergo an additional six months’ RI if he failed to pay the fine.
Afame Funa Maxwell, arrested on Jan 8, was sentenced to a six years’ RI with a fine of Rs100,000. The Nigerian, who had concealed a little over one kg heroin, stuffed into 88 capsules, would have to undergo an additional six months’ RI in case of default on the payment of fine.
Agu Henry was also given a sentence identical to Maxwell’s. Arrested on Jan 6, the drug trafficker had concealed one kg heroin, filled in 73 capsules.
Ontonio Monterio, who had hidden 462 gram heroin in 40 capsules, was sentenced to three years’s RI with a fine of Rs50,000.
He was arrested on June 3. He would have to undergo an additional three months’ RI if he failed to pay the fine.
ACQUITTED: The same judge acquitted a man, prosecuted for possessing 1.45kg charas, as the prosecution could not prove its case against him.
Mohammed Bilal, represented by Sarfraz Khan, was arrested on Jan 30 by the CIA Saddar on Mauripur Road. The CIA team claimed the seizure of the narcotics from him.
