ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: Federal Minister for Health, Muhammad Nasir Khan held a meeting with WHO representative Dr Khalif Bile Mohmud, Unicef representative Ms Carrol Long and UNFPA country representative Olivier Brasseur here on Wednesday.
The representatives of the UN agencies briefed the minister about the activities being carried out by them in Pakistan and discussed the future plans with him.
They also apprised the minister of the emergency assistance provided by the UN agencies to the earthquake victims in Northern Areas. The minister thanked the UN agencies for their prompt help for the quake-hit people of Diamir District.
Mr Khan discussed with them the future plans and strategies that he is going to implement in his ministry. He particularly emphasized the participation of all women legislators, district and union council members for the development of women and children’s health status in the country.
He also informed the UN agencies representatives that he would ask the provincial governments to pay special attention to women and child health in the hospitals at all levels including rural health centres (RHCs) and basic health units (BHUs).
The WHO representative conveyed the message of Dr Hussein A. Gezairy, Regional Director, WHO, EMRO in which he has congratulated the minister on assuming charge of the health ministry and also invited him to visit WHO secretariat. The minister accepted the invitation.
