KARACHI, Nov 27: The Federation of All-Pakistan University Academic Staff Association has criticized the government for issuing termination of service orders against those teachers and doctors who resisted the policies of the regime.

The Federation deplored the issuance of termination orders at the behest of governor of Punjab against the joint action committee (JAC) leaders for their protest against downsizing, denationalization of educational institutions, formation of board of governors in hospitals and the model university ordinance.

FAPUASA demanded that the termination orders against teachers and doctors be withdrawn immediately.

It warned the government that its attempts to suppress people’s resistance would lead to further deterioration of the situation, as, it added, teachers and doctors throughout the country would resist such measures.

“Termination orders and promulgation of ordinances in a period when elected government is taking office speaks volumes about the intention of the government.”

The Federation will soon call an emergency meeting to decide its future line of action to resist the acts of victimization.

PMA: The Pakistan Medical Association has strongly criticized the sacking of its president, Prof Dr Yasmin Rashid, and termed it an irresponsible behaviour of the Punjab governor and provincial health minister against a honest and hardworking doctor.

It said Prof Yasmin has been a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a great teacher who did enormous work in the fields of reproductive medicines, genetics and intrauterine treatment of fetus and is one of the scientists who detected special thalesernic genes in the Pakistani population.

The Federation criticized the privatization of government hospitals and educational institutions and hoped that the new government would adopt people-friendly policies.—PPI
