‘Gas price raise not planned’

Published November 26, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25: A spokesman for the petroleum and natural resources ministry has said that the next gas price review will be considered in March 2003.

Referring to a news item regarding 10 per cent increase in gas prices during the second week of December, the spokesman termed it incorrect and not based on facts. He clarified that the government had no intention to increase the gas prices.

He said that according to the government’s policy, gas prices were reviewed bi-annually. The prices were increased on Oct 25 by 1.6 per cent keeping in view the increase in the international prices of oil and to reduce subsidy on the domestic sector, he said.—Correspondent
