KARACHI: Inquiry ordered into death of fish

KARACHI, Nov 17: According to an official handout on Sunday, Sindh Chief Secretary K.B. Rind has said that the Sindh government has decided to establish an environment department.

“The aims is to preserve natural sites, buildings and localities and create a conducive environment for the maintenance of hygiene in accordance with laid down rules”, he told a group of newsmen at his office.

He directed the department of agriculture and the fisheries to conduct an enquiry into the death of the millions of fish which have surfaced at the Clifton beach. He said that in addition to the enquiry to be conducted by the department of agriculture, a team had been formed to probe into the incident.

He said those fish might have died of some poison released by some factory and contaminated the sea, and if that was true, action would be taken against those responsible.

However, he added that the possibility of some natural cause behind the incident also existed. He said if the laboratory tests proved the existence of poisonous elements, the dead fish would not be used to prepare poultry feed.—APP/PPI
