SC issues notice to AG on polls petition

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to Attorney General on an election petition filed by Sindh Democratic Alliance leader Imtiaz Shaikh against denotification of his election result.

The Bench comprised Chief Justice of Pakistan Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, Justice Mian Mohammad Ajmal and Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbassi.

Advocate Akram Sheikh argued that once the Election Commission had issued results of a constituency, it could not take it back or amend it or issue a new order on its own.

Imtiaz Sheikh had been first declared as MPA from PS 11 Shikarpur but later it modified its result and Agha Tariq was declared as a successful candidate.

Advocate Aitzaz Ahsan represented Aga Tariq and submitted that if the Election Commission had made a mistake and then corrected it, what was wrong with that.

No date was fixed for next hearing but the court indicated it would fixed for early hearing.
