Girl dies in shelling

MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 12: A teenaged girl was killed and an infant wounded in Azad Kashmir in Indian shelling from across the Line of Control, officials said here on Tuesday.

The casualty occurred in Chakothi sector, some 60kms south of Muzaffarabad, after the Indian troops started shelling in the area on Monday evening without any provocation, an official told Dawn.

Indian troops, the official said, used both “small and heavy arms” and as a result, a 15-year-old girl, identified as Yasmeen, died and a one-year-old boy, Zohaib, was injured in Khilana village.

At least two houses were partially damaged in the same village, he added.—Staff Correspondent
