KARACHI: Industrialists urged to take part in KESC privatization
KARACHI, Nov 12: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro on Tuesday urged industrialists and their respective associations to participate in privatization of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation so that the corporation could be operated efficiently.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 8th Site Eid Bachat Bazaar, the governor also asked the businessmen to work on water desalination project to meet water shortage in the city.
He praised the Site Association for organizing the Eid Bachat Bazaar for the last eight years in which, he added, quality products were sold at affordable prices for families of poor workers. He hoped that the number of stalls and the range of products would be increased next year.
The governor stated that though the government was making efforts to provide security and safety to the entrepreneurs they should also make some security arrangements on their own.
In response to a demand of the Association chairman, he said that President Gen Pervez Musharraf had taken personal interest to convert the KESC power plant from thermal to gas in order to reduce the burden of utilities on the people.
He advised the industrialists to adopt such modes which are effectively used to lessen wastage of water, including water conservation and recycling process.
Mr Soomro informed the industrialists that besides K-3 project, the government had made a comprehensive plan for the next ten years to supply water to Karachi as well as to the Nooriabad industrial area to boost the industrial sector.
He assured them that mobility and patrolling at different roundabouts would be increased to combat the incidents of mobile snatching.
However, he asked the businessmen to give donations for fixing of sensitive/detective cameras in various points to mitigate incidents of theft.
Earlier, Site Association chairman Haroon Farooqui highlighted the problems being faced by the industrialists and other businessmen of the SITE Industrial area.
Giving details of the Eid Bachat Bazaar, he said that it had been held for the last eight years and so for some 100 stalls had been displayed this year and the numbers of stalls would be increased.
The Bachat Bazaar will continue for 25 days and its closing time has been advanced from 6pm to 10pm.—PPI
