KARACHI: Victimization of doctors, teachers criticized

KARACHI Nov 8: The Federation of All-Pakistan University Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) on Friday criticized the government for allegedly victimizing a large number of teachers and doctors for resisting the regime’s policies.

In a statement, FAPUASA deplored the continuation of inquiries against the joint action committee leaders for their protest against downsizing, denationalization of educational institutions, formation of board of governors in hospitals and the model university ordinance.

FAPUASA expressed shock at the renewed inquiry against Dr Yasmeen Rashid, the PMA President and chief of the JAC, for calling a strike in Lahore against killing of doctors in Karachi in January.

It demanded that the suspensions and show-cause notices against teachers and doctors be withdrawn immediately.

It called for the immediate withdrawal of suspension orders of the following:

Prof Nazim, Administrator Hasnain, Prof Hafiz Abdul Khalid, Prof Majid Wazir, Raja Mehboob, Prof Mohammad Arif, Prof Noorul Haq, Prof Mohammad Ijtiba, Prof Fakhar Umar Hayat Lalika, Prof Muqudas Mirza, Prof Mohammad Ahmed Awn, Prof M. Zaheerudin, Prof Zafar Jamal (members and office-bearers of Punjab Professors & Lecturers Association), Dr Yaseem Rasheed, and Dr Azeemuddin, Dr Ashraf Mirza (office-bearers of the PMA).—PPI
