PPP refrains members from statements

Published November 8, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Nov 7: The People’s Party Parliamentarians asked its elected members on Thursday to refrain from making public statements on controversial issues.

In a joint statement issued after a PPP high-level meeting, vice president Mir Baz Khetran and deputy secretary general Shaikh Mansoor said any leader could express his/her sentiments in party meetings.

The central leaders of the PPP and elected parliamentarians belonging to the party participated in the meeting.

They said an impression was being created that the elected members were above party discipline. “Whatever the situation may be, the policies of the PPP, whether related to organizational matters or parliamentary matters, are decided by PPP chairperson Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto.”

They said if any party member had any opinion about the prevailing political situation in the country, he/she should not express it publicly when a forum is available within the party.
