KARACHI, Nov 7: An anti-terrorism court acquitted on Thursday six workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a double murder case as the prosecution could not prove its case against them.
Judge Aley Maqbool Rizvi of the ATC-1 also issued show-cause notice to the investigation officer, Sub-inspector Shamsuz Zaman, for improper and defective investigation of the case.
The case pertained to the kidnapping of Ms Imtiaz Parveen and her nephew Sajjad Iqbal, gang-rape of the woman, and their murder on August 16 and 17, 1998 in the police limits of Manghopir.
The judge acquitted Abdul Qayyum, Nadeem Bilori, Mohammed Adnan alias Addoo, Ali Akhter, Zulfiqar alias Chappoo and Mohammed Asghar Ali of all charges as the prosecution failed to bring on record even a shred of evidence against them.
The case was registered initially against unknown culprits on the complaint of Mohammed Feroze, father of victim Sajjad.
