KARACHI, Nov 7: Reckless driving claimed six lives in the city on Thursday. A man and his young son died in a road accident in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Police said that Qalandar Bakhsh Bhutto, aged 40, and his son Safdar Bhutto, aged 20, were travelling on a motorcycle when they were hit by a speeding Suzuki pick-up at the NIPA traffic intersection. Both the injured men were rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

Police claimed to have arrested the pick-up driver and impounded the vehicle.

Qalandar Bhutto was a retired employee of the Civil Aviation Authority and was living in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

An unidentified young man died when the minibus he was travelling on overturned near the zoo in the morning.

Edhi sources said that a minibus (JE-5841) of route X-17 JE-5841 overturned while negotiating a turn near the zoo in the police limits of Soldier Bazaar. A teenage boy died on the spot, and five other passengers, including a 35-year- old woman, were injured.

Police said that the accident took place due to reckless driving by the minibus driver in the morning rush hour.

The bus driver escaped after the bus overturned.

The injured were taken to Civil Hospital.

A young man was knocked down by a speeding truck in SITE.

Police said that a cyclist, Nadeem Afzal, aged 25, was knocked down by a speeding truck (JP-0268) near the Habib Bank chowrangi in SITE. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police claimed to have arrested the truck driver, Aurangzeb, and impounded the truck.

A beggar died when he came under the wheels of an oil-tanker in Shershah in the evening.

Police said that the unidentified beggar used to beg for alms at the Piracha Chowk traffic signal. The tanker driver gave him a Rs-5 note, which slipped from his hand. The beggar tried to grab it and came under the rear wheels of the moving tanker.

The beggar died on the spot. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

Police claimed to have arrested the tanker driver.

A taxi driver died in a road accident in Nasir Colony. Police said that a speeding bus of route 17-J (JE-8701) rammed into a taxi (PE-0869) near a filling station in Zaman Town. As a result, Nasir Mehmood, aged 50, who was driving the taxi, died on the spot.

The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem.

The bus driver escaped.

ROBBERY: One robbery was committed in the city on Thursday, police said.

Bandits robbed a cattle trader in Malir. Police said that bandits robbed Fareed Mohammed, a cattle trader, of Rs85,000 at gunpoint in the police limits of Sukhan. They also injured him by hitting on his head with a pistol butt.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead in Quaidabad on Thursday morning.

Police said that Shahzada, aged 22, was asleep in his house in Bilal Colony, Quaidabad, when unknown men barged into his house, opened fire on him and escaped. The young man died on the spot. He hailed from Swat in the NWFP.

The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem.

Police suspected personal enmity to be the motive for the killing.

INJURED: A young man was stabbed in Garden area on Thursday.

Police said that Abdul Qahar, aged 33, was on way to his house in Garden West, when unidentified men stabbed him and escaped. He had been admitted to Civil Hospital where doctors described his condition as serious.
