PLTA seeks financial help from ITF
LAHORE, Nov 5: Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) will seek financial support from International Tennis Federation (ITF) for the construction of a proposed modern tennis complex here.
“ We will soon be pleading our case through Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) for getting help from ITF from its development programme,” said Bashir A Gill, secretary, PLTA while talking to APP Tuesday.
ITF provides financial assistance to its affiliated members countries for the creation of tennis facilities and if approved it would provide Rs3m in this regard, he said.
Punjab Governor, Lt General, Khalid Maqbool Sunday announced to provide a piece of land at a suitable place and initial grant of Rs one million for building a tennis complex equipped with all necessary facilities.
Gill said PLTA will submit a summary within a week to Punjab government suggesting the building of the complex in the Nishtar Park complex,the hub of all sports activities, where Gaddafi stadium for cricket, National Hockey Stadium, a cycling velodrome, national training and coaching centre and a few small arenas are already there.
Secretary PLTA said it is likely that the project will be completed at a cost of Rs 10 million.
“All the courts will be grassy as grass courts are a part of historic culture of Lahore and they suit our players and weather as well,” he maintained.
He hoped that Punjab government will take a prompt action to allocate a piece of land and to start the construction of the complex.
