HYDERABAD, Nov 5: The women councillors elected from various union, Taluka, and district councils complained of non-allocation of funds and being ignored by the Nazims.

They discussed their problems at a one-day workshop on ‘An institutional framework for effective representation by women councillors,’ organized by the Aurat Foundation at the Dialdas Club on Tuesday.

They have called for putting an end to gender discrimination on various grounds.

The women claimed that while the women councillors in the District Councils have been allocated separate offices, the situation for women working at the union council level was quite different where only the union council Nazim was considered superior and had a say in everything.

They pointed out that the women councillors were running from pillar to post to get separate offices so that they could serve the women of their union councils, and added that the Union Council Nazims did not include them in various works at the Union Council level.

Nevertheless, the speakers stated that the women must come forward and serve the poor women without waiting for the allocation of funds.

The workshop passed several resolutions calling for putting an end to violence against women.

Another resolution stressed the need for making the women councillors resourceful even at the union council level.
