KARACHI: Inter-city bus stands Planned

KARACHI, Oct 31: The transport and communication department of the city government Karachi has prepared a plan whereby terminals will be constructed for inter-city buses going from Karachi to various cities in the interior of Sindh.

This was stated by EDO transport, Dr Tahir Soomro at an inter-city terminal review meeting.

In the first phase these terminals will be constructed in the depots of the defunct Karachi Transport Corporation with the cooperation of the Sindh government and various companies and syndicates. In the second phase terminals will be constructed on highways.

In the first phase, the terminals will come up at the KTC Malir and Orangi depots, on Manghopir Road, in Khayabn-i-Chishti, North Nazimabad, and Gulistan-i-Jauhar off University Road. In the second phase, the terminals will be constructed on super, national and RCD highways.

During the meeting, chairman transport committee, Hafiz Ahmed Ali, was informed that at present there were over 155 inter-city terminals in Karachi. He observed that inter-city terminals at Lines Area, Cantt Station, Saddar, Garden, Liaquatabad, Lea Market, Banaras Chowk and other places were resulting in traffic jams and other problems.

He said a delegation of the Sindh-Balochistan Bus Owners Association, led by its president Ismail Hasni, had met him and assured that the transporters of Balochistan were prepared to shift to the Manghopir depot, and according to another report the transporters of the NWFP had shown willingness to shift to the Orangi depot, and a meeting in that regard would soon be convened by the city Nazim.—APP
