Acceptance of return urged

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 30: Federal Tax Ombudsman Justice Saleem Akhtar has asked the Commissioner of Income Tax, Karachi, to accept the return of an assessee under Self Assessment Scheme.

The FTO said the selection of the assessee for total audit and exclusion from the purview of SAS was not according to the law, which was unlawful and unjustified selection.

The Ombudsman recommended to the commissioner to direct the assessing officer to accept the return of the complainant for the assessment year 2001-02 under SAS. The compliance report should be produced to his office within 30 days of the order, he said.

The complainant, executive director, Techno Pack Industries (Pvt) Ltd, Karachi, alleged that the return qualified for procession under SAS but instead to accept it the inspecting additional commissioner of Income Tax, Range-II, issued notice to the complaint.
