LAHORE, Oct 29: A card of six events comprising mediocre runners has been laid out for the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse Wednesday.

All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres. In all, 72 acceptors are to compete, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

In the sixth and feature event, division V of the Narowal Plate Class VII, there are 14 acceptors. This seems an open race. On current form and handicap five of them are on chance. They are Chief Executive, Fiji, Lucky Bailiff, Fly To The Stars and Weldon Shogun.

As the very name has attraction of its own, the three-year- old colt Chief Executive, owned by former international hockey star Munir Dar has an edge over others.

In his last outing a week ago the colt was beaten on his first try out over 1200 metres. Now the distance has been reduced by 200 metres, Chief Executive should take the advantage and oblige his followers.

The four-year-old bay filly Silver Baby, who was beaten last week by Royal Harban after a grim struggle should make amends this time in the second race. The filly is being fancied despite her stable’s reputation that their favourites seldom win. Sun Dance, Nijinsky and Hot Press should fight for the lesser berths.

The other four events on the card are expected to turn out competitive and may provide some close and thrilling finishes to delight the fans. The first race will start at 1.00 pm.
