KARACHI, Oct 28: Young KESC’s fast bowler Owais Athar bowled with hostility to reduce Navy to 207 all out in their first innings on the opening day of the three-day Kardar Trophy match at National Stadium here Monday.
Navy, who elected to bat, lost their first wickets for 91 and the last four for just 17 runs as Owais claimed seven for 69 in 24 overs.
Only the consistent Wasim Naeem (57 off 37 balls, 11 fours) and Jawwad Ali (49 off 137 balls, eight fours) batted with any conviction as Navy struggled to get on top of KESC’s bowling.
At stumps, KESC replied with 66 for two.
Off-spinner Haaris Ayaz returned remarkable figures of six for 14 in 7.3 overs to help Karachi Port Trust (KPT) restrict Pakistan Education Board (PCB) to 151 in their first innings at KCCA Stadium.
The students lost eight wickets for 42 runs after being 109 for two at one stage. Kamran Younis, the opening batsman, contributed 61 of 74 deliveries while adding 84 for the second wicket with skipper Naveed Khan (35).
KPT, in reply, were already in front thanks to an unbeaten 106 off 132 balls by opener Zafar Jadoon. The portmen reached stumps at 191 for one.
Sui Gas were in driving seat against Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at PCB Regional Academy Ground.
Sui Gas scored 99 for three after PAF were bundled out for 103 in their first innings.
Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Pacer Tahir Mughal devastated Army’s batting by picking up eight for 32 in 16.5 overs in the match at Saga Cricket Ground in Sialkot.
Army were skittled out for a paltry 100 in their first innings.
Saga then consolidated their position by reaching 202 for four in reply with Shahzad (71) and Ashraf Ali (60 not out) leading the way.
Meanwhile, an unbeaten 125 by Ashar Zaidi enabled PTCL pile up a formidable a first innings total of 388 for five declared against PTV at Lahore Country Club Ground in Muridke.
By close of play, PTV were in deep trouble at nine for four with slow left-armer Mohammad Hussain taking three wickets for five runs in six overs.
