Mechanism for reward

Published October 26, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has constituted tax-wise committees to work out a standard mechanism for rewarding efficient tax officials.

A senior official in the CBR said on Friday that the committees would shortly come up with their suggestions, proposals, which would be finalized for its subsequent approval by the higher authority.

It was not possible for the revenue division to increase the salaries and other privileges of the employees of tax machinery as was recommended by the Shahid Hussain task force report, the official said.

Elaborating the criterion for selection, the official said the personal performance of the employee concerned would be made as the basis for the selection.

Besides the earlier criterion —maximum seizure of smuggled goods and achieving of tax target — for rewards, the official said the personal performance of an official would be taken into account. He said that in some areas due to calamity or some other reasons the revenue target may not be achieved but even then performance of the official would be considered for reward.
