KARACHI: Anti-polio drive to continue till Saturday


KARACHI, Oct 24: Secretary Health Khalid Latif Choudhry has extended anti-polio drive for three days till Oct 27.

He said this during visits to various towns of Karachi to inspect anti-polio campaign on Thursday. He also directed the deputy director EPI, Dr. Shaheed Isran and Dr. Munawwar, to ensure vitamin-A drops to more than 8.4 million children up to the age of five in Sindh along with polio drops.

“There are almost 260 million children around the world who suffer from Vit-A deficiency and thousands lose their eyesight due to it every year”, adding “according to a survey, 38 per cent children up to the age of five years in Pakistan are facing deficiency of vitamin-A”, the health secretary informed.

Khalid Latif said on his directions DG Health Dr. Qadir Bangash and Project Director EPI, Shamsunnisa Ansari were monitoring anti-polio drive in interior of Sindh with special attention being given to areas where polio cases had been recorded.—APP
