CAIRO, Oct 22: Pakistan’s top notched cueist Khurram Hussain Agha got off to a whirlwind start in the World Snooker Championship by winning both his opening group”G” matches at the Movepick Hotel resort Monday.
After beating Muneir Cassim of South Africa in his opening league match 4-1, Khurram produced another sterling show by beating Yannick Paulin of France 4-3.
Pakistan number one Khurram Agha made an incredible fight back from 0-3 down to overpower Yannick.
Frenchmen Yannick made great start by wrapping the opening three frames 82-16, 61-38, 71-28, but Khurram raced to a splendid victory by winning the last four frames 74-11, 68-01, 74-60, 71-33.
Khurram had breaks of 37 in the fifth and 7th frame.
Earlier in his opening match Khurram defeated Muneir Cassim 4-1: 63-15, 41-53, 74-61, 70-29, 69-18.
However Pakistan’s most gifted player Saleh Mohammad, a former world No. 3 had mixed fortunes, losing one match and losing the other.
In his opening Group “C” match, Saleh beat Joe Meara of Northern Ireland 4-1: 87-9, 80-47, 82-25, 22-64, 63-60.
Saleh, who is renowned for his break building ability, chalked up breaks of 68, 36 and 30 in the second frame, 61 in third and made an excellent clearance of 62 in the final.
In his second league match Saleh however went down 2-4 against Chih-Wei Ku of Chinese Taipei.
Saleh won the first and fourth frames before going down 57-23, 52-65, 09-62. 54-17, 39-63, 60-62.—APP
