KARACHI, Oct 22: S. M. Zafar, a former federal minister and chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, has exhorted politicians to learn a lesson from the example of the services rendered by Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said.

He was delivering a memorial lecture on the occasion of the fourth death anniversary of Hakim Said at Madina al-Hikmah here on Tuesday.

Mr Zafar was of the view that only legitimacy and good governance combined could bring political stability and peace in the country.

Paying tributes to Hakim Said, Zafar said that he was an exceptional man and a patriotic Pakistani. He quoted the renowned writer and poet Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi who said patriotism was running through the veins of Hakim Mohammad Said.

He said that Hakim Saheb’s murder had caused a great loss to Pakistan as well as the Muslim world.

“To eradicate corruption and establish truth in the society, Hakim Said did what Socrates had done for his society. He demanded accountability, spotted places of corruption and pointed to the “mafia” ruling in our society.

Chancellor of Hamdard University, Justice Ajmal Mian, said that Hakim Saheb was a patriot who knew that even the initiative and determination of one individual for a good cause could make a worthwhile difference.

“With a tenacity of purpose, he decided to set his own example before the nation and devoted his attention to the cause of national education. To this goal he committed his entire belonging and all the energy at his command,” said Ajmal Mian.
