ISLAMABAD Oct 21: Chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf, Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Awami Tehrik, Tahirul Qadri, PML(J) President, Hamid Nasir Chattha and PML(Z) President, Ijazul Haq, have demanded early convening of the National Assembly session to allay what they described the fears of another unconstitutional step.

Speaking at a joint news conference at the PAT office on Monday, the four leaders also demanded of the major parties to reach a consensus on power game to settle contentious issues like constitutional amendments, president’s status and LFO etc. outside the parliament by immediately convening their collective meeting/APC.

Replying to a question about constitutional amendments package and whether it could also be discussed outside parliament, Hamid Nasir Chattha said: “The amendments made by military government had become part of the Constitution as long as these were reconsidered or re-amended by two thirds majority of the parliament.

They also announced to leave the political bickerings in the interest of democracy, restoration of the Constitution and putting the country on path of economic and political stability.

They warned that if the parties who have won majority seats in the National Assembly failed to reach at a conclusion at the earliest the very road to democracy could be disrupted and some other unconstitutional steps could be taken.

They called upon the leadership of these political parties to put the national interest above their personal interests and let the democracy and democratic norms flourish so that the anti-democracy forces do not blame them for creating mess.

When asked reason for faring poorly in the elections, Imran Khan claimed that he and other three leaders present had won their seats by fighting full might of establishment which had turned against them.

He said we have decided to forget and forgive the accusations that were levelled against other leaders during election campaign.
