PESHAWAR, Oct 21: Both the seeded Pakistani players were shown the door here Monday at the semifinals of the Chief of the Air Staff International tournament being played here at the Army Squash Complex.

In the first semifinal, Nick Matthew of England defeated Pakistan’s Shahid Zaman by 15-7, 17-15, 12-15, 15-7 and 15-5 to set the final match with the Australian Dan Jenson, who emerged victorious after defeating Mansoor Zaman of Pakistan by 15-3, 15- 13, 11-15, 15-14.

The match between Nick Matthew and Shahid Zaman lasted for 80 minutes. The first game was won by Matthew which was levelled by Shahid by winning the second game.

The third game was again won by Matthew whereas Shahid staged a comeback and secured victory in the fourth game to level the match.

The last game, however proved to be totally a one-sided affair as Matthew outclassed his Pakistani rival by a convincing 15-2 margin.

The second semifinal of the day was played between Dan Jenson of Australia and Mansoor Zaman of Pakistan which was won conveniently by the Australian.

The tournament which is being played here from October 19 was participated by top ranking players from Australia, Egypt, Malaysia, England, Qatar and Italy.

The final of the US $ 25,000 would be played at the Army Squash Complex Tuesday (Oct 22, 2002) at 2:45 pm.

Chief of the Air Staff Mushif Ali Mir, will be chief guest on the occasion.
