ECL charge handed over to FIA

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Oct 21: The charge of Exit Control List (ECL) at Islamabad airport has been withdrawn from the army monitoring team and handed over to FIA immigration, an official source said on Monday.

The ECL desk, controlled by the army team, was set up after the dismissal of Nawaz Sharif government on October 12, 1999.

SMUGGLING BID FOILED: The customs authorities at the airport on Monday foiled an attempt to smuggle heroin and arrested a Tanzanian national in connection with drug trafficking, authorities said.

The checking-in for Abu Dhabi flight was underway, when the customs staff found a passenger acting suspiciously. On checking, 1/2 kg heroin was seized from the suitcase of Solamini Albani, the customs authorities said.

MAN DIES: A person who was critically injured in a collision between a truck and a wagon near Sarwar park off The Mall, died in hospital on Sunday, police said.

Syed Ali Hassan, the victim, was one of the passengers in the wagon (BM-231). The other passengers, who had sustained minor injuries, were allowed to go after first aid, the police said.
