MARDAN, Oct 21: Angry protesters set fire to a police post in the Mayar village here on Monday over the alleged killing of a man by some policemen.

The body of Sawar Khan was recovered from a stream near the village 36 hours after his drowning.

Locals said the deceased, who also carried a gun, was going to irrigate his fields on Saturday night when the police allegedly asked him to stop, but instead of doing so, he jumped into the water and drowned.

However, the policemen kept mum over the incident.

In the morning, his relatives started search for him, but later some people informed them that he was drowned in the stream and started looking for his body in the waters.

The locals recovered the body after 36 hours of the incident while his face, ears, eyes, nose and some parts of the body were eaten by the tortoises. Seeing badly mutilated body, the people were enraged and they attacked the police post and set fire to it, besides beating the staff.
