KARACHI, Oct 21: People from across the city complained on Monday night that youngsters in their localities have been exploding firecrackers making their life miserable.

There is an official ban on the sale and purchase of firecrackers.

People wondered why police were turning a deaf ear to this nuisance and did not penalize shopkeepers selling firecrackers.

“I do not think it is a problem tracking down shopkeepers violating the ban,” said a woman from Clifton. “It is, however, common knowledge police receive their share to keep mum over such matter.”

Also blaming parents for their children’s activity, she said her children “because of proper parental guidance have never indulged in this frivolous activity.”

A resident from a Korangi locality said the explosions were so powerful that he felt as if his eardrums would be damaged. “Could somebody provide me with an earplug for a fortnight before Ramazan begins?” he said.

A large number of callers said both youngsters and police were insensitive to the trouble being caused to people by firecracker explosion.

SHAB-I-BARAT: The faithfuls celebrated Shab-i-Barat with religious fervour on Monday, the 15th of Shaaban, adds APP.
