RAWALPINDI, Oct 20: Some of the heavyweights losing from the city’s national assembly and provincial legislature constituencies are likely to be adjusted in view of their “great services”, sources in the political parties said here on Saturday.

The PML-Q Punjab chief organizer, Raja Basharat, had contested for provincial assembly from PP-6 constituency, but lost to Raja Arshad Mehmood of the PML-N. However, eversince his defeat Mr Basharat has been stationed in the provincial metropolis, busy in making arrangements for installation of his party’s government.

The PML-Q sources said he was being tipped to become special assistant to the chief minister or an advisor. Chaudhry Pervez Ellahi, nominated for the office of chief minister by the PML-Q, depends greatly on Mr Basharat, the party sources said.

The other major political figure to have lost the elections from Rawalpindi was PML-N chairman Raja Zafarul Haq. He is almost sure of being elected to the Senate. He has already served as leader of the house in the Senate. Mr Haq had lost to Zamurad Khan of the PPP from NA-54.

The other political heavyweight sure of getting to the Senate is Syed Zafar Ali Shah, the PML-N’s vice-president, who had lost to Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, an independent candidate.

The PML-N sources the party would take them to the Senate to facilitate their struggle for the cause of democracy. By- elections for a National Assembly seat are to be held in Rawalpindi.
