KARACHI, Oct 16: Four ships, including Steel Might, carrying 21,000 tons of DAP fertilizer are expected to arrive at the outer anchorage on Thursday, according to KPT sources.

Berthing activity at the wharves was fairly brisk where nine ships were berthed to clear the inward rush of incoming vessels. They are: Chitral, Ocean Starlight, APL Portugal, Global Power and Oriental Bright, to unload and load containers, Mohawk, to offload rock phosphate, Sakala, Kalimanis to unload and load general cargo and NurYanbu, to offload chemicals.

Five ships, Mar Challenger, Trade Selene, Ocean Bright, Pacific Express and Kalimanis sailed out, while Nur Yanbu, Johar, APL Portugal, Keiko, Karine and Umberto Amato are due to sail out on Thursday.

A record cargo of 0.131m tons, including 63,205 tons of oil, was handled. The export tonnage of 3,626 tons comprised 3,676 tons of wheat and 13,098 tons of general commodities, while import totalled 0.114m tons.

The berth occupancy at the oil was 100 per cent, while on the dry wharves it rose to 64 per cent owing to steady berthing.

The following ships are due on Thursday: Hammurabi, Global Paramount and PONL Thekwini, with containers and Steel Might, with fertilizer.
