Proposed university ordinance flayes

By Our Staff Correspondent

KOHAT, Oct 15: The NWFP College Teachers Association, Kohat division, has rejected the enforcement of the proposed model university ordinance and the contract-based appointments in the educational institutions  and has demanded of the government to review its decision in this regard.

A meeting held at the Government Postgraduate College, here on Tuesday, chaired by the divisional president of the association, Prof Habibur Rehman, criticised the government for putting the cases of teachers’ promotions in the cold storage, which was causing anxiety among the teacher community.

In a press release, issued here, the teachers condemned the privatisation of the educational institutions as it would push the cost of the education further beyond the reach of common man.

The education, being the basic human right, should not be made costly in a country like our’s where the ratio of the higher education was already dismal, the meeting observed.

The meeting was attended by the central office-bearer of the association, prof Shafique Ahmed, and the secretary general, Kohat teachers association, Altaf Hussain Khattak, besides a large number of professors, directors of physical education and librarians, who  vowed to support also the demands made by the NWFP Professors’ Association.
