NOWSHERA, Oct 12: Amir Jamaat Islami and Vice-President of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), Qazi Hussain  Ahmed, has hinted at entering into alliance with other like-minded parties for the formation of government in NWFP and Balochistan.

“We have been into alliances with other political forces in the past and the same cannot be ruled out for the formation of next government,” he said.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, the JI chief said: “We want restoration of 1973’s Constitution and constitutional organs as we are against one man’s government and wanted to establish a genuine democratic government in the country.” The MMA would strive for the stability and strengthening of the democracy and democratic institutions.

Answering to a question, the JI leader said the top leadership of the MMA would decide about the future line of action of the alliance about formation  of governments in Balochistan and NWFP.

About support to the majority party in the Centre, the MMA leader said no decision had yet been taken and the advisory board would decide about it.

Qazi Hussain Ahmed demanded of the present government to change its foreign policy in the larger interest of the nation and made it in consonance with the aspirations of the people.

About presence of US bases in Pakistan, the MMA leader urged the government to wind up the same as soon as possible as it were not needed anymore. Moreover, he said, the government should forthwith stop interference in the affairs of Afghanistan and let the Afghans be allowed to decide about their future.

Replying to another question, he said, without compromising on the basic principles, the MMA would extend cooperation and assistance to the like-minded parties within the constitutional limits. However, he clarified that the MMA would not take any step repugnant to the interests of the country.

The JI leader said that the MMA would make endeavours to eliminate injustice and corruption from the society.

WOMEN: About women’ role, the MMA leader said it would extend the respect and dignity to the women which Islam had given them.

He emphasized that the MMA would not follow the Taliban-style of the government and said women would not be subjected to any injustice and oppression.

The women would be convinced to follow Islamic teachings in their daily life, he added. Moreover, they would be provided full opportunities of education and employment.

He vowed to provide honourable status to the women in the society by undoing the wrongs done to them in the past.
