ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: Chief Election Commissioner Irshad Hasan Khan expressed satisfaction on Saturday over the completion of the election 2002.

The CEC, while talking to a wire news agency, claimed that the Election Commission remained impartial and took action against the officials who were found interfering in the process.

He said that the EC was busy in finalizing the names of the winners in the election so that they could be included in the official gazette.

The CEC asserted that all the political parties were given due representation in the process and their suggestions were accommodated in all the decisions of the Election Commission to ensure free, fair and transparent polls.

Mr Khan said that except few minor incidents, the polling throughout the country remained peaceful.

Due to complaints and disturbances at some areas, the Election Commission took prompt decision and declared the polling void and ordered re-polling in those constituencies, he added.

He said that the Commission would take effective steps in case of any complaint received from any candidate regarding the elections.—APP
