KARACHI, Oct 6: The Liaquatabad sector in charge of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead early Sunday morning.
Mohammed Akram Niazi, aged 28, in charge of sector 162 of the MQM, was found shot dead in a narrow lane behind house No 122 in Block 1 of Talib Colony, Liaquatabad.
Police said that unidentified men pumped three bullets into Niazi’s head.
The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem where a large number of Muttahida workers gathered after hearing the news.
A spokesman for the Muttahida claimed that Niazi was kidnapped on Saturday night following an exchange of fire between workers of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in Liaquatabad.
Around 7:30am on Sunday his bullet-riddled body was found in Talib Colony, Liaquatabad No 1.
Sources at the hospital said that the young man was shot at point-blank range.
The victim was buried in a local graveyard in the evening. A large number of party workers and leaders attended the funeral prayers and burial.
Police said that Niazi’s brother lodged an FIR (103/2002) at Supermarket police station.
A young man was shot dead in Shah Faisal Colony in the evening.
Police said that Saeed, aged 35, and Imran, aged 15, were sitting at a cement block-making yard near A-One Hospital in Shah Faisal Colony, when unidentified men came there and opened fire on them.
Saeed and Imran were injured. They were rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors pronounced Saeed dead on arrival. Imran was admitted to the hospital.
TPO Shah Faisal Colony Azad Khan said that, according to initial information, they had no political affiliation.
However, a candidate of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, contesting elections from NA-256, later came to the JPMC and claimed that the dead man was his party’s supporter and was working in the election campaign at Natha Khan goth.
SUICIDE: A young woman committed suicide in the city on Sunday.
A young couple, identified as Nasreen Rahmat, aged 22, and Ishaq Masih, aged 23, had fled their homes in Mian Chunnu in Punjab. Here they were living in a rented house in Shah Rasool Colony, Clifton.
Police said that the girl’s parents approached police informing them about the place where the man and wife were living.
Police raided their house in Shah Rasool Colony on Sunday. When the couple saw police, they consumed poison.
They were rushed to the JPMC where doctors pronounced Nasreen dead on arrival. Ishaq was admitted to the hospital where his condition was described as serious.
