KARACHI: Liaquat College students hold demo

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 2: Teachers and students of the Government Liaquat College, Malir, protested against forcefully vacating of their college building and suspension of teaching for the last about ten days.

The teachers of other colleges also observed a black day and performed their routine assignment wearing black arm-bands to express solidarity with the college staff and students and condemned the educational officer for not providing any alternative place for education, prior to vacation of the building.

District Officer Education (colleges) was also criticized for his failure to ensure accommodation for the college students and resumption of academic activities, said a press release of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association on Wednesday.

It was further said that girl students and teachers of the college, who held a demonstration near the City Nazim’s office at Civic Centre, were misbehaved by police personnel.

The City Nazim visited the under-construction building of the college along with the officials of the works department. He asked the official to complete the remaining work at the building immediately.

Meanwhile, SPLA, Karachi, has demanded the removal of the DOE (colleges) as, according to it, the officer had failed to resolve the Liaquat College issue. The association also condemned the police action on girl students and teachers. The college building had been vacated under a court decision, it was learnt.
