AEC staff receives polling material

ISLAMABAD, Oct 1: The staff of assistant election commissioner here on Tuesday received 1,000 ballot boxes, stationary and stamps etc for holding polls in the Capital.

An official said ballot boxes had been prepared in Lahore whereas stationary and stamps had been sent from Karachi.

He said ballot boxes and stationary would be handed over to the presiding officers on October 9 at a meeting, which would be held at Islamabad Model School for Boys, F-8/4. The meeting would be presided over by the district and sessions judge.

Meanwhile, the ICT administration has been asked to acquire over 350 vehicles from government departments and private transport services for the transportation of polling staff.

The official said some 2,500 teachers would carry out elections duties in Islamabad.

It may be mentioned that the polling staff was imparted special training on October 26 at the same school.

The official recalled that some 384 polling stations would be established in two constituencies —- NA-48 and NA-49. However, the number of polling booths would be 774.

APP adds: Meanwhile, the chief commissioner, Mir Laiq Shah, presiding over a high level meeting on Tuesday, reviewed security and administrative arrangements for smooth conduct of general elections in Islamabad.

The meeting was attended by the inspector general of police, director (administration), deputy commissioner, SSP, and assistant election commissioner.
