ISLAMABAD, Oct 1: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has failed to execute Rs632 million development projects, which was to be commissioned under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP 2002-03), sources told Dawn on Tuesday.
The sources said the government had allocated Rs869 million for the uplift projects in Islamabad in June but despite the passage of three months, no major project has so far been commissioned by the Authority.
They said Rs632 million was allocated for the CDA’s mega development projects and Rs237 million for uplift schemes in Islamabad Capital Territory administration.
The CDA is waiting for the release of the grant to carry out the development schemes, an official of the authority said.
The official said Rs300 million had been allocated for dualization of IJ Principal Road but so far Rs130 million had been spent on it.
Similarly, Rs102 million has been earmarked for the construction and furnishing of Parliament Lodges. Total cost of the project is Rs1,255.104 million, of which Rs1,153 million has so far been utilised on the project.
For the improvement of first three phases of Sewage Treatment Plant and construction of its fourth phase, he said, Rs20 million had been allocated under the PSDP. However, foreign aid of Rs80 million will also be spent on the project in the current fiscal.
The dualisation of Islamabad Highway from Gumrah bridge to Rewat is also one of the mega projects being executed by the CDA. For this project, Rs97.757 million has been allocated. The project’s total cost is stated to be Rs633.520 million and so far Rs527.563 million has been utilised, the official said.
“An amount of Rs0.5 million would be spent on a project concerning the construction of office and residential accommodation for AGPR.” So far, Rs68.858 million has been spent on the project against the estimated cost of Rs99.827 million, he added.
The official said Rs22.864 million had been allocated to carry out the additional work for the safety of Simly Dam during the current fiscal. “The entire project will cost Rs95.885 million, of which Rs 41.059 million have been utilised.”
The CDA will spend Rs6.318 million for the installation of security equipment at Aiwan-i-Sadr. “Rs13.677 million has so far been spent on the project against its total cost of Rs19.996 million.”
